An Imperfect Heart Sings Like a Candle in a Storm

A sculpture.

One day, an artist named Tri asked me,

"Is there a way to make a light beat in sync with someone's heart?"

I replied,

"Yes, there is."

Together, we created a unique work of art, which was later exhibited at the John David Mooney Foundation in downtown Chicago.

As Tri walked around, his heart rate was sent to a sculpture that would pulse the light to his heart beat. If he were to jog in place, you would see the beat of the light go up. If he were to rest and sit still, you would see the light blink on and off less frequently. You can read more about the show here.

The heart rate data was collected from a Fitbit that had custom software loaded into it.

This Fitbit would send heart rate data through a phone via a cellular connection to electronics that were wired into a light.

So much intricate depth concealed behind what appears to be a fleeting, momentary experience. You can read how to build something similar over on my Github profile page, where I've shared code and written instructions.

The person who created the Fresnel Lens is Dan Spinella from Florida. He is one of a few lighthouse conservators in the United States. He created the Fresnel Lens for the movie 'The Lighthouse' (2019) by A24, starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe.

Invention Concept

A 3D Scene.

I participated in a 3D modeling competition hosted by Womp and won 1st place for my entry. For this competition you had the choice to submit under one of two themes, either #robot or #invention. I chose to submit one under the theme of invention.

Credits to FishVex and Penginsame for the models I remixed for this submission. When I entered, I never expected to place as a finalist. It took me back to my teenage years, creating maps for games. Back then, you could visit a website to download 'prefabs'—pre-made game assets—to use in level design. Seeing the option to remix models here felt similar, treating them as modern-day prefabs (or prefabrications).
